Issue Context

The Issue Context feature in Timesheet for Jira enhances time tracking by embedding worklogs and workplans directly into the issue view. This allows users to efficiently monitor logged time, manage planned work, and perform key actions such as editing, moving, or deleting worklogs and workplans without leaving the issue. By enabling this feature, teams gain a more streamlined and transparent workflow within Jira.

 

Access and Activation

1.Who Can Enable Issue Context?

  • Only Jira Administrators or users with Administrator permissions can activate the Issue Context feature.

  • Regular users can only view or interact with the Issue Context features once the feature is enabled and permissions given.

2.How to Enable the Issue Context feature

Follow these steps to activate Issue Context feature in Timesheet Cloud:

  1. Open the Navigation Menu :

  1. Navigate to the Administration section :

    • From the dropdown menu, select Administration.

  1. Navigate to the Capabilities Section:

    • Then, select Capabilities to view the available features.

  1. Locate the Issue Context Features Section:

    • Scroll down to find the Issue Context Feature section.

    • Toggle the switch to enable Issue Contxt Features.

  1. Enable the Issue Context Feature:

  2. Once activated, the Issue Context Feature will become available in the Timesheet Tracking for Jira.


Using the Issue Context Feature in Timesheet for Jira

1. Availability After Activation

Once the Issue Context feature is activated by a Jira administrator, it becomes available in the Jira issue view. Users can now access detailed worklog and workplan informations directly within each issue.

2. Where to Find the Issue Context Panel?

  1. Open any Jira issue (Epic, Story, Task, Bug…).

  2. The Timesheet panel will be displayed in the issue details section on the right side.

  3. This panel provides a quick summary of worklogs and workplans related to the issue.

3. Information Displayed in the Issue Context Panel

The Timesheet section in the Issue Context panel provides:

  • Total time logged on the issue.

  • Number of worklogs and workplans associated with the issue.

  • Original estimate of the task (if set).

  • Time planned for the issue.

  • Options to include child issues in the calculation.

This allows users to track work progress through all child tasks without leaving the issue view.

The Issue Context Panel will display a maximum of 5000 worklogs per issue.

Managing Worklogs in Issue Context

Once the Issue Context feature is enabled, users can manage worklogs directly from the issue view. This includes viewing, modifying, moving, and deleting worklogs.

1. Viewing Worklogs in Issue Context

  1. Open any Jira issue where worklogs have been recorded.

  2. In the Timesheet section, you will see a worklogs summary, indicating the number of worklogs and workplans associated with the issue.

  3. Click on the worklogs to expand and view detailed entries.

2. Accessing Worklog Details

  1. Click on the Worklogs section within the Timesheet panel.

  2. A Work Details pop-up will open, displaying a list of all worklogs related to the issue.

  3. The worklogs table includes:

    • Worklog ID

    • Issue

    • Summary

    • Author

    • Start Date and Time

    • Created Date and Time

    • Updated Date and Time

    • Comments

    • Time spent

3. Moving Worklogs to Another Issue

Required Permissions for Moving Worklogs

To move worklogs from one issue to another, the user must meet the following conditions:

✅ The user must have access to the destination issue (this is already checked by Jira) and must also have the Work on Issues permission on that issue.
✅ The user must have the following Jira permissions:

  • Delete All Worklogs

  • Edit All Worklogs

These permissions are required whether the user is moving their own worklogs or worklogs created by other users , the conditions are the same in both cases.

These permissions ensure that the user can manage worklogs globally, allowing them to move any logged time between issues.

 

  1. In the Worklog Details pop-up, select one or multiple worklogs.

  2. Click on the "Bulk Move" button.

  3. Choose the destination issue where you want to move the worklogs.

  4. Confirm the action, and the selected worklogs will be transferred.

4. Deleting Worklogs

Required Permissions for Deleting Worklogs

To delete worklogs from an issue, the user must have the appropriate Jira permission:

Delete All Worklogs

This permission allows users to delete both their own worklogs and those created by other users. If the user does not have this permission, the Delete button will be disabled.

This permission allows the user to manage worklogs globally.

The required permission is the same whether the user is deleting their own worklogs or worklogs created by others.

  1. In the Worklog Details pop-up, select the worklogs you want to delete.

  2. Click on the "Bulk Delete" button.

  3. Confirm the deletion, and the worklogs will be removed permanently.

Managing Workplans in Issue Context

Once the Issue Context feature is enabled, users can manage workplans directly from the issue view, including viewing, modifying, and deleting workplans. However, the Planning feature must be enabled to access detailed workplan information. For instructions on how to enable Planning, refer to Planning | Access and Activation

1. Viewing Workplans in Issue Context

  1. Open any Jira issue where workplans have been recorded.

  2. In the Timesheet section, you will see a workplans summary, indicating the total planned time associated with the issue.

  3. Click on the Workplan tab to expand and view detailed entries.

2. Accessing Workplan Details

Clicking on the Workplan tab within the Timesheet panel opens a Work Details pop-up. This table provides an overview of all workplans linked to the issue, including:

  • Workplan ID

  • Issue

  • Summary

  • Type

  • Author

  • Start Date and Time

  • Created Date and Time

  • Updated Date and Time

  • Time Planned

3. Converting & Deleting Workplans

Users can convert and delete workplans when needed.

  1. In the Work Details pop-up, select the workplan(s) you want to convert or delete.

  2. Click the Bulk Convert or Bulk Delete button.

  3. Confirm the conversion or the delete and the selected workplans will be converted or deleted.
